Artist Profiles - Spring Season 2002

Linda Maylish - has shown paintings nationally, but for this show she will be offering work in which she has explored texture and surface in drawing, using both pencil and monotype printing techniques.

Jim Pape - The Iowa Mississippi valley where Jim grew up was a treasure trove of stones that he has made his art form. Once they are polished and set, the natural beauty of stones creates a unique work of art.

Richard Blue - a studio jeweler who combines charm, intrigue and a positive sense of humor in his jewelry design. Richard incorporates both precious gems and found objects with 18K sterling and gold.

Santiago Zarzosa - a native of Spain, his landscapes and abstracts are influenced by his European heritage, especially the Spanish masters who taught him there is always a better painting to do - the next one!

Chank Diesel - succeeds in making images in his paintings which are bright and primal, and though his fonts made him famous, his quirky alphabetic illustrations and paintings are collected by an international market.

Lee Persell - uses clay as the vehicle to express her need to touch, to feel the weight, the edges, the surface, and to create a ceramic object so others may share in this tactile and sensual experience.

Cynthia Amendt - is an accomplished metalsmith and photographer. Her special interest is in alternative photographic processes such as cyanotype, argyrotype, platinum and palladium printing.

Laura Drabant - builds ceramic sculptures inspired by gourds and pottery figures of ancient Mexico. Smoke-firing in sawdust and newspaper along with banana and orange peels, syrup and oils gives them color.

David Peroni - Caribbean and Chinese philosophy influences this painter, whose talent for simplicity and use of bright colors creates works with emotion and humor. www.peroniart.com

Robert Bowman - an unusual ceramic artist, he combines seemingly contradictory qualities - richness and simplicity, rusticity and refinement - to achieve strong forms, some with beautiful hand carved, grooved surfaces.

Michael Daly - His watercolors use a variety of media, including metallic gouache, ink and charcoal. Michael’s work is influenced by his studies in Asia of traditional Chinese printing and philosophy. He paints on location in northwest Wisconsin. www.dalywatercolors.com

Sonya Berlovitz - a costume designer for Theatre de la Jeune Lune, Sonya has also designed for the Children’s Theatre, the Guthrie Theatre and others. She studied in Paris, New York and at the Chicago Art Institute. Her Renderings of her costume designs are art at its best.

Don Fredericks - This stained glass artist usually creates in picture-sized formats, and also creates free-standing pieces. Some of his work incorporates solder sculptural aspects directly into the piece.

Glenn Allenspach - believes his pottery is both a tactile and a visual art. It may certainly be displayed, but the full merit of his work is truly realized when it is employed in the service for which it was made.

Patty Carmody Smith - her fiber art pieces are bold and contemporary, with themes from nature intermixed with dream images. Her choices of colors and designs are exquisite. www.carmodyart.com
