Artist Profiles - Fall Season 2002 Ben Lau - a celebrated Hong Kong artist, Ben’s activism in China required a move to Minnesota where he continues to paint, draw, & mentor art students. Frank Stone - the salvage yard remains Frank’s favorite playground! His distinctive furniture, sculptures, & fountains result from his reworking the brass & copper found there. Eric Larson - from Walker Art Center installation to visual presentation at Nieman Marcus, Eric now is creating raw wood tables inlaid with Lake Superior stones. Bruce & Tamy Leventhal - these two environmentalists use spectacular photography to capture the evolutionary heritage, complexity & geography of the Earth. Phyllis Wiener - Her abstract paintings have been shown & sold internationally for many years, yet Phyllis continues to create new & always exciting art. Patrick Greffin - co-autobody sculptor (and jazz pianist) Stan Hall gave Pat the early encouragement he needed to develop into the excellent sculptor he is today. Kathy Mogelson - a long time Northwest airline employee, Kathy's extensive travel is reflected in her watercolors, depicting far ranging subjects, including Asian-inspired work. Malcom Potek & Kara van Wyk - this couple’s collaborative work has Malcom doing multiple fusing, cold-working & kiln-formed glass, and blowing clear glass vessels, which Kara paints. Kara also uses high-firing paints for fused glass. Gloria Schahczenski - this Minneapolis College of Art and Design grad is influenced by her love for New Mexico & Minnesota landscapes. Bob Sorg - owner of "Two 12 Pottery," Bob is stretching from pots into metal sculpture. His fascination with the sea, coupled with a love of birds, is obvious in his work. Barb Evan - to touch, rub, smear & scrape is Barb’s joy in oil pastels, while her mind (and a brush!) governs her acrylic paintings. Her work was chosen to represent the 1999 Saint Paul Art Crawl. Craig Lossing - his award-winning creations in wood range from organic forms & visionary vessels to whimsical toys & functional objects Mary Wooters Knecht - her silver jewelry, some interwoven with semiprecious stones have always been a favorite at the gallery. Robert Young - "earthy & textural" would best describe Bob’’s prints, as well as his paper making, which has evolved from his interest in working with plant fibers . Jo Severson - a Kansas transplant, Jo has been throwing pots in Minnesota since 1976, first in Little Falls, now in Clearwater. Never stagnant, Jo’s pottery always pleases. Dan & Lee Ross - they work together from design to final sculpture. Lee also makes monotype prints, one of which was chosen as the poster for the Uptown Art Fair. Jan Erickson - with vibrant color & lively brush strokes, she creates art for the wall, on duvets, pillows, or wherever you wish, and she welcomes commissions! Peter Caley - a commercial photographer whose artistic element is monochromatic images, Peter sometimes introduces innate color to further enhance his subject. |
